Southland Steel Fabricators Inc. has announced a $25 million investment to expand its production facility in St. Helena Parish, Louisiana amid rising demand for fabricated steel driven by large-scale industrial projects across the state.
The project will add 9,300 sq. m. of production space and integrate advanced robotic welding technology, increasing welding capacity by 50% and doubling material processing capabilities.

The expansion is expected to create 80 direct new jobs over the next three years, offering an average annual salary of $60,000, while retaining 340 existing positions. According to Louisiana Economic Development (LED), the project will generate an additional 117 indirect jobs, bringing the total potential job creation to 197 positions in the Capital Region.

LED secured the expansion by offering Southland Steel a $2.5 million reimbursable grant through its Economic Development Award Program for site development and equipment. The company will also participate in Louisiana’s Industrial Tax Exemption and Quality Jobs programs.
The project marks Southland Steel’s second major expansion in 2023. Earlier this year, its subsidiary, Southland Industrial Coatings, announced a new fireproofing facility in St. Landry Parish, set to begin construction by mid-2025.
