In a historic decision, the Western Illinois University (WIU) Board of Trustees has unanimously named Dr. Kristi Mindrup as the institution’s 13th president, making her the first female president in WIU’s history. Effective immediately, the appointment recognizes her transformative leadership since assuming the role of interim president in April 2024.
“Dr. Mindrup embodies the bold, transparent, and strategic leadership WIU requires,” said Board Chair Carin Stutz. “Her proven track record of thoughtful decision-making and expertise aligns with the university’s goals. The Board is unanimous in its confidence that she will continue driving WIU forward.”
Dr. Mindrup’s 27-year career in higher education has been marked by a focus on strategic planning, academic affairs, and fostering inclusive campus environments. Prior to her interim presidency, she served as Vice President for Quad Cities Campus Operations, where she played a pivotal role in the development of the WIU Quad Cities Riverfront Campus in Moline.
Beyond her contributions to WIU, Dr. Mindrup serves on the Board of Directors for Renew Moline and the United Way Education Council. She has also held leadership positions with the Council for Advancement of Standards in Higher Education and the Illinois Association for Institutional Research.
Dr. Mindrup holds a Ph.D. in educational policy and leadership studies from the University of Iowa, a master’s degree from Western Illinois University, and dual bachelor’s degrees from the University of Northern Iowa.
Her presidency signals a new chapter for WIU, underscoring a commitment to innovation, inclusivity, and strategic growth.
