Michigan is advancing its economic momentum with more than $31 million in new business investments that are expected to create 196 jobs across Calhoun, Kent, and Kalkaska counties. The projects, announced by Governor Gretchen Whitmer and the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC), highlight the state’s growing role as a hub for advanced manufacturing and regional development.
Investments Across Key Regions
In Battle Creek, Calhoun County, ProTec Panel & Truss Manufacturing will expand operations with a $3 million investment. The project will generate 50 new jobs and increase the company’s production of engineered wood components for residential and commercial construction.
In Kent County, Weiss Technik North America, a subsidiary of Germany’s Schunk Group, plans to build a 125,000-square-foot facility in Kentwood. The $25.6 million investment will create 36 skilled positions and expand the company’s U.S. manufacturing footprint.
In Northern Michigan, WarBird Protection, a producer of personal protective equipment for law enforcement, military personnel, and sportsmen, will establish new operations in Kalkaska County. The company’s expansion represents $3 million in capital investment and is expected to create 110 jobs.
Statewide Economic Impact
Governor Whitmer said the announcements add to Michigan’s upward economic trajectory by creating high-paying jobs and strengthening local economies. MEDC officials emphasized that both international and domestic firms continue to view Michigan as a competitive location for expansion. “We continue to see both new businesses drawn to Michigan and homegrown companies expanding here because we have the right economic development tools in place to support and secure these vital investments,” said Matt McCauley, senior vice president of regional development at MEDC.

The expansions align with the state’s Make It in Michigan strategy, designed to attract investment and secure long-term growth in advanced manufacturing sectors.
