Located in West Texas, Big Spring is the largest city in Howard County with a population of more than 28,000 residents. Positioned at the intersection of Interstate 20 and U.S. Highway 87, the city serves as a regional hub with access to key transportation corridors. The community offers a low cost of living, affordable housing and an average commute time of just 15 minutes, supporting workforce accessibility and quality of life.

Sankey brings experience in agriculture, rural development and economic leadership, with a track record of building partnerships, attracting investment and supporting community growth. She most recently served as executive director for economic development in Gonzales, Texas, where she led initiatives focused on infrastructure expansion, business attraction, job creation and downtown revitalization.

Prior to that, Sankey served as vice president of the Kansas Agriculture and Rural Leadership (KARL) Program, working with industry and community leaders to strengthen regional collaboration and leadership development.

Board President Terry McDaniel said the selection reflects the organization’s focus on long-term growth. “The board invested considerable time and effort in the search and appointment process, and we are confident that Mrs. Sankey will serve the Big Spring community with distinction,” McDaniel said.

Sankey holds a degree in agricultural education and leadership development from Texas A&M University and is a graduate of the University of Oklahoma Economic Development Institute, affiliated with the International Economic Development Council.

As executive director, Sankey will lead initiatives to advance economic growth in Big Spring, including business recruitment and expansion, workforce development and targeted marketing efforts aimed at strengthening the city’s economic competitiveness.
