Clark Atlanta University has secured $5.23 million in federal funding over the past four years to support science education, cybersecurity research, and campus safety initiatives, highlighting continued bipartisan investment in academic research and infrastructure at historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs).
The funding was obtained through Congressionally Directed Spending across multiple fiscal years and two U.S. presidential administrations. University officials said the investment will strengthen academic programs, expand research capacity, and improve security infrastructure across the Atlanta-based campus.
In fiscal year 2026, Clark Atlanta University received $1.1 million to support improvements in science education and public safety. Of that amount, $850,000 will fund the purchase of scientific equipment and support financial aid and stipends aimed at strengthening science education and detection capabilities. The remaining $250,000 will be directed toward campus security projects and broader public safety enhancements.
Earlier federal appropriations totaled $3.13 million in fiscal year 2024. This included $2 million to support the university’s Cybersecurity Research Center, $500,000 for additional cybersecurity research initiatives, and $630,000 dedicated to campus security and safety improvements.
An additional $1 million secured in fiscal year 2022 was allocated to advance cybersecurity research programs at the institution.
University leaders said the combined funding will enable the acquisition of advanced scientific equipment, strengthen cybersecurity capabilities, and support new safety measures designed to enhance the campus environment for students, faculty, and staff.
“We are immensely grateful to Senator Ossoff, Representative Williams, and Senator Warnock for their unwavering support,” said Dr. George T. French Jr., president of Clark Atlanta University. “This funding will allow us to elevate our educational offerings and ensure the safety of our campus community, enabling us to fulfill our mission of excellence in education.”

Clark Atlanta University was formed in 1988 through the consolidation of Atlanta University, founded in 1865, and Clark College, founded in 1869. Today, the private research institution offers undergraduate, graduate, and professional degree programs and is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.
