CSUSM marks milestone in $91 million campus housing expansion

California State University San Marcos (CSUSM) reached a significant milestone on March 20, 2025, hosting a topping-out ceremony for its University Village Student Success Housing and Dining Project. This event, which celebrated the placement of the final steel beam, underscores the university’s commitment to expanding student services and accommodations.

The new project spans 2.5 acres and includes a residential complex capable of housing 600 additional students, alongside a 19,000-square-foot dining facility. Once complete, CSUSM will boost its total on-campus housing capacity to over 2,000 students, significantly enhancing campus life and student resources.

“This project is a testament to our commitment to meeting the needs of our growing student population and enhancing their overall experience at CSUSM,” said President Ellen Neufeldt.

Construction began in January 2024, with the entire project slated for completion by summer 2026. Funding for the initiative includes a substantial $91 million allocation from California’s 2022-2023 state budget, highlighting the state’s ongoing support for higher education infrastructure.

The topping-out event featured a traditional tribal blessing performed by Chairman Bo Mazzetti of the Rincon Band of Luiseño Indians, reflecting CSUSM’s respect for the indigenous heritage of the region.

The University Village project aligns with the university’s broader strategic goal of fostering student success by creating an inclusive and supportive campus environment through improved residential and dining facilities.
