Florida International University (FIU) has strengthened its global academic standing in the 2026 QS World University Rankings by Subject, with its hospitality program ranking No. 3 among U.S. public universities, No. 23 worldwide and No. 1 in Florida.
The recognition highlights the continued performance of FIU’s Chaplin School of Hospitality & Tourism Management, one of the university’s flagship programs. The ranking reflects strong employer recognition and graduate outcomes, with QS placing significant weight on employability and industry reputation.
“Our FIU Chaplin School of Hospitality & Tourism Management has reached an important milestone with this year’s rankings,” said Michael Cheng, dean of the Chaplin School. “It was driven by a higher employment reputation score, which shows that industry is recognizing the quality of our students and the impact of our graduates.”
FIU’s performance in the rankings extends beyond hospitality. The university was also ranked among the top 30 institutions in the United States for politics, placing within the top 15 among public universities and within the top 101–150 globally. In total, 17 FIU programs were ranked, including disciplines such as accounting and finance, architecture, business, history and law, reflecting broad-based academic strength.
“These rankings reflect the quality of FIU’s academic programs and the confidence employers have in our graduates,” said FIU President Jeanette M. Nuñez. “Across disciplines, our programs are preparing students with the skills and experience needed to succeed in a global workforce.”

The QS subject rankings assess universities across five broad academic areas: arts and humanities, engineering and technology, life sciences, natural sciences, and social sciences and management. Institutions are evaluated based on metrics including academic reputation, employer reputation, research output (H-index) and international research collaboration.
FIU Provost Elizabeth M. Béjar said the results reflect the university’s focus on combining academic rigor with real-world application.
“Our strong QS scores show that we deliver respected academics, impactful research and real-world career value, giving students a globally competitive and industry-relevant education,” she said.
The 2026 QS World University Rankings by Subject analyzed more than 6,273 programs across 55 disciplines at 166 locations worldwide, providing a comprehensive benchmark of global academic performance.
University officials said the latest rankings underscore FIU’s growing global profile and its strategic emphasis on experiential learning, industry engagement and workforce alignment—factors that continue to drive its competitiveness in international higher education.
