Grillo’s Pickles to build $54M manufacturing facility in Bartholomew County, Indiana

Grillo’s Pickles has announced plans to construct a new $54 million food manufacturing facility in Taylorsville, Indiana, aiming to meet the growing national demand for its products. The 155,000-square-foot plant will be located along the I-65 corridor in Bartholomew County and is expected to create up to 150 jobs.

The new facility will be adjacent to a previously announced $175 million King’s Hawaiian bakery operation. Both companies are subsidiaries of Irresistible Foods Group (IFG). Joe Leonardo, Vice President of Strategic Operations for IFG and Chief Operating Officer of King’s Hawaiian, stated, “When we purchased the Bartholomew County site, we did so with thoughts about building it out in phases. Today’s announcement for Grillo’s Pickles confirms our strategy.”

Adam Kaufman, President & CEO of Grillo’s Pickles, emphasized the strategic importance of the location, saying, “For our new production site, it was important to us to find a central U.S. location with a skilled workforce and supportive business environment, and we are very excited to be in Bartholomew County, Indiana.”

Local and state officials have pledged significant support for the project. Bartholomew County officials approved up to $3.7 million from a combination of County Rainy Day Funds and County Economic Development Income Tax (CEDIT) funds for infrastructure improvements, including water, sewer, and road upgrades. Additionally, a 10-year property tax phase-in on the new building and equipment is expected to save the company approximately $1.2 million.

The Indiana Economic Development Corporation has committed up to $1.4 million in performance-based tax credits, contingent on job creation. Furthermore, up to $1 million from the State of Indiana’s READI 2.0 funds will support intersection improvements and the extension of County Road 700N in support of the Taylorsville Industrial Park.

This expansion reflects Grillo’s commitment to growth and its dedication to producing high-quality, preservative-free pickles using a century-old family recipe. The new facility is a significant step in meeting increasing consumer demand and contributing to the local economy.
