Mars opens $240M Nature’s Bakery facility in Salt Lake City

Global food manufacturer Mars has opened a $240 million manufacturing facility in Salt Lake City, Utah, to expand production for its Nature’s Bakery brand. Headquartered in McLean, Virginia, Mars is one of the world’s largest privately held companies, best known for its confectionery, pet care, and food brands, including M&M’s, Snickers, Pedigree, and Ben’s Original.

The 339,000-square-foot site is part of Mars’ $2 billion commitment to U.S. operations through 2026 and is expected to create more than 230 jobs in the region.

Nature’s Bakery CEO Steve Gardiner said the facility will support long-term growth, improve production efficiency, and maintain product quality. “It gives us the space to grow today and tomorrow, while letting us bake even more efficiently and with even higher quality,” Gardiner said.

The investment strengthens Utah’s position as a hub for advanced manufacturing. “Nature’s Bakery’s new facility is exactly the kind of high-impact investment that positions Utah for continued success,” said Jefferson Moss, executive director of the Governor’s Office of Economic Opportunity. “We’re proud to welcome the company as it expands in Salt Lake City, bringing quality jobs and reinforcing our state’s reputation.”

Salt Lake City Mayor Erin Mendenhall highlighted the company’s early community engagement, noting that Nature’s Bakery had shown “generosity and heart” even before production began.

The facility’s opening reflects broader growth in the U.S. health and wellness food sector, with Mars expanding its domestic production capabilities to meet rising demand for wholesome snack options nationwide.
