Medina County kicks off 2025 with $52 million investment boom

The Medina County Economic Development Corporation (MCEDC) has kicked off 2025 with 50 expansion projects, representing $52 million in new capital investments. According to a news report by the Gazette, these projects are expected to create 90 new jobs within Medina County, underscoring the region’s continued economic growth.

MCEDC Executive Director Bethany Dentler highlighted the organization’s active pipeline, with several dozen projects carried over from last year and more than 40 projects tracked from previous years. Of the new projects, 57% are industrial, 36% are commercial, and the remainder are development opportunities.

“Development interest is strong across all corners of Medina County, with a noticeable increase in mixed-use projects,” Dentler stated.

Reflecting on 2024, Medina County saw an 8% increase in capital investment compared to 2023, totaling $250 million. This growth led to the creation of 645 new jobs, with $28 million in new payroll generated by companies collaborating with MCEDC.

MCEDC closed 42 projects last year, including 19 that originated in previous years. These 42 projects accounted for nearly 70% of the county’s total capital investment in 2024. “We are working with the companies that have the most impact on county growth,” Dentler explained.

The organization maintained strong engagement with the local business community, meeting with 220 companies in 2024 and already holding several meetings in early 2025.

Medina County’s unemployment rate remained low at 2.8% in December 2024, compared to Ohio’s rate of 3.8% and the national rate of 4.2%. The labor force grew to 98,900 people, an increase of 2,000 compared to the previous year.

Despite this growth, Dentler noted that Medina County companies continue to face worker shortages. To address this, MCEDC is focused on supporting talent initiatives for local employers, ensuring a skilled workforce to sustain the county’s economic momentum.
