Michael Kitten has been appointed as the new Executive Director of the Canyon Economic Development Corporation (CEDC). Bringing over 20 years of experience in economic development, Kitten previously served as Vice President of the Amarillo Economic Development Corporation and as Executive Director of the Hereford Economic Development Corporation. His background also includes a tenure as Dean of Technical Education at Amarillo College.
Canyon City Manager Joe Price expressed confidence in Kitten’s leadership, stating, “He brings valuable expertise in economic development and a genuine passion for business retention and expansion, both of which are top priorities for Canyon. With his extensive experience and dedication, we are excited to see the positive impact he will have on our community.”

Kitten holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration and is a graduate of the Economic Development Institute at the University of Oklahoma.
In his new role, Kitten will lead the CEDC, a Type 4B development corporation focused on supporting projects aimed at economic growth, job creation, and enhancing the quality of life in Canyon.
Expressing his enthusiasm for the new position, Kitten said, “I’m thrilled to be joining the City of Canyon and look forward to collaborating with local stakeholders to drive economic development initiatives. Kitten’s appointment comes at a pivotal time for Canyon, as the city experiences unprecedented economic development activity. His leadership is expected to further drive initiatives that support business retention, expansion, and the attraction of new industries to the area.
