The Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) unveiled Michigan’s Roadmap to a Sustainable World at the World Economic Forum, highlighting the state’s pivotal role in combating climate change through industrial innovation and sustainable practices.
Michigan’s commitment to sustainability is evident in its ambitious targets and strategic partnerships. The MI Healthy Climate Plan, introduced in April 2022, outlines a pathway for the state to achieve 100% carbon neutrality by 2050. Cory Connolly, Michigan’s Chief Climate Officer, emphasized that the plan aims to mitigate climate risks while fostering economic growth and equity.
“We must ensure we are creating a cleaner, more sustainable planet for future generations not just here in Michigan, but around the globe,” said MEDC CEO Quentin L. Messer Jr. “Michigan is leading in sustainability through business and policy, which is creating more opportunities for investment, job creation and cleaner communities for our citizens.”

The state’s leadership in clean energy investment is underscored by a recent report from Climate Power, which ranks Michigan first in the nation for securing projects funded by the Inflation Reduction Act. These initiatives have attracted over $27.84 billion in new investments and are projected to support more than 26,000 jobs.
To support the burgeoning clean energy sector, Michigan is enhancing its talent pipeline. Hilary Doe, Michigan’s Chief Growth Officer, highlighted efforts to recruit top talent and implement reskilling programs, enabling professionals from industries like automotive to transition into clean energy roles. Collaborations with higher education institutions are also underway to align curricula with industry needs.
By showcasing its comprehensive approach to sustainability at the World Economic Forum, Michigan reinforces its position as a leader in the green economy, demonstrating that environmental stewardship and economic prosperity can go hand in hand.
