The State of Ohio and the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base have renewed their commitment to collaborative innovation through a new memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed on June 2, 2025. Governor Mike DeWine and AFRL Commander Brig. Gen. Jason Bartolomei formalized the agreement during a ceremony at the Pentagon Tower Club in Beavercreek.
This renewed partnership aims to enhance the exchange of scientific knowledge and technological expertise between Ohio’s public institutions and the AFRL. By fostering closer collaboration, the agreement seeks to accelerate research and development initiatives, support workforce development, and stimulate economic growth within the state.
Governor DeWine emphasized the significance of this alliance, stating, “This is a relationship that has been very, very important to the state of Ohio.” He highlighted the mutual benefits of the partnership, noting that it not only advances national defense capabilities but also bolsters Ohio’s position as a leader in science and technology.

Brig. Gen. Bartolomei echoed these sentiments, expressing confidence that the collaboration would yield substantial advancements in both military and civilian sectors. He remarked, “We are excited to continue this partnership that leverages Ohio’s robust research ecosystem and the AFRL’s cutting-edge innovations.”
The MOU outlines a framework for joint projects, shared resources, and coordinated efforts to address emerging challenges in areas such as aerospace, materials science, and information technology. By aligning their strategic objectives, Ohio and the AFRL aim to drive technological breakthroughs that can be rapidly transitioned into practical applications.
This renewed agreement builds upon a longstanding relationship between the state and the AFRL, reflecting a shared commitment to advancing scientific discovery and economic prosperity. As Ohio continues to invest in its innovation infrastructure, partnerships like this are pivotal in positioning the state at the forefront of technological development.
