SKF opens global hub for super-precision bearings in Italy

Swedish engineering company SKF has opened a new global center of excellence for super-precision bearings in Airasca, Italy. The facility consolidates manufacturing, business support, research and development, and engineering operations into a single site, positioning it as the company’s central hub for high-precision bearing technology.

The Airasca center will serve as SKF’s global headquarters for super-precision bearings, absorbing production previously carried out at its Pianezza and Villar Perosa plants. Villar Perosa will continue to focus on bearings for the railway and aerospace industries, while Airasca drives the company’s expansion in precision manufacturing.

SKF President and CEO Rickard Gustafson described the project as a milestone for growth. “We’re excited about the inauguration of our Airasca facility, which represents a substantial investment in profitable growth and customer expansion. This environment is optimal for manufacturing our new super-precision bearings, which will improve our competitiveness and provide our customers with superior solutions faster and more efficiently,” he said.

David Johansson, SKF’s president for Industrial Region Europe, Middle East, and Africa, emphasized the strategic role of the new hub. “This is more than just a new facility, it’s a bold step forward in how we deliver precision, performance, and partnership to our customers,” he said. “By uniting our expertise and capabilities, we’re creating a dynamic ecosystem that will shape the future of super-precision bearing technology.”

The investment strengthens Italy’s role in SKF’s global supply chain and underscores the growing demand for advanced bearing solutions in industries such as robotics, machine tools, and aerospace.
