Yakult U.S.A., a subsidiary of the Japanese maker of probiotic beverages, has announced it will spend $305 million to build its second U.S. production facility in Bartow County, Georgia, which is expected to create more than 90 new jobs. The expansion underscores Georgia’s appeal as an investment location for international business.
“With Georgia’s logistics network connecting companies globally, we’re attracting top firms like Yakult. Since I took office, Northwest Georgia has created over 11,000 jobs, and we’re thrilled to welcome Yakult’s contributions to this growth,” said Gov. Brian Kemp.
Founded in Japan in 1935, Yakult entered the U.S. market with its first facility in 2014.
“Georgia’s climate, logistics, and support align with our needs. This facility will serve eastern and central U.S. markets, enhancing our reach,” said Yakult U.S.A. President and CEO Yutaka Misumi.
Set to open in 2026 at the Highland 75 Corporate/Industrial Park, a GRAD Certified site near Atlanta, the new plant will offer roles in HR, machine operations, quality control, and warehouse management. The new plant, larger than Yakult’s California operation, will also provide public tours on probiotics and production.
Local leaders are eager for Yakult’s impact on the state economy.
“Yakult brings quality jobs and investment, enriching our industry diversity. Choosing a GRAD site underscores our pro-business appeal,” said Bartow County Commissioner Steve Taylor.
Georgia has strong ties with Japanese businesses, with over 460 facilities employing more than 49,000 Georgians.
“Yakult’s investment highlights our partnership with Japan. Our global offices connect Georgia with key markets, supporting growth across the state.” said GDEcD Commissioner Pat Wilson.
