Zero waste heroes: How APNA is leading the charge for a sustainable future

As the clamor for environmental protection grows louder daily, companies across the world have demonstrated their unwavering commitment to sustainable growth. With its motto “Creating for Tomorrow,” Asahi Kasei Plastics North America (APNA) has overhauled its production process by gradually adapting one eco-friendly initiative at a time.

Through its Triple Bottom Line approach, wherein people and the planet are prioritized over profit, APNA has implemented several initiatives that have contributed to the global effort to protect the environment and do its part in becoming a conscientious corporate citizen.

“We aim to prioritize embracing sustainable practices in every aspect of our operations to reduce the impact our products and processes may have on the environment. We want to ideally achieve zero waste in short order,” said Phani Nagaraj, the incoming president and COO of APNA.

One of APNA’s flagship initiatives is its commitment to achieve ‘Zero Waste to Landfills by 2025’ across its three U.S. locations. This is a mission embraced by every corner of the company as each location has dedicated teams to meticulously analyze waste streams, and in-house recycling stations that tackle everything from metal to plastic.

But its commitment doesn’t stop at the office and factory doors. APNA urges its employees to join its sustainability journey by championing initiatives, like water conservation and emission reduction. The company hopes to foster a culture wherein every individual understands their role in building a greener tomorrow.

Beyond its operations, APNA is also committed to giving back to the local community.

“We believe in working together to grow not only our company but also the community and the customers we serve,” Phani told GMI POST.

Through annual fundraising events and volunteer opportunities, APNA wants to become a good corporate citizen that makes a tangible difference in their local community. Its partnership with Operation Clean Sweep further demonstrates its dedication to environmental stewardship by minimizing pellet, flake, and powder residues released into the environment.

Last year, APNA was named the top fundraiser for a United Way event in Livingston County.

For APNA, business isn’t the only priority. Its mission includes building relationships and making a positive impact where it matters most. One thing remains clear: with APNA, the world can look to a future that is brighter and greener.
