The Marion Economic Development Corporation (MEDCO) has announced a leadership transition within its Board of Directors. Eric Schmitt, a board member since 2019, has been appointed Board Chair, while Emily Kaiser, who joined the board in 2022, will serve as the incoming Chair.
Schmitt is the president of Rapids & Affiliates, a family-owned business specializing in food service equipment and supplies, with operations in Iowa, Minnesota, and Missouri. A Cedar Rapids native, he holds a degree in finance and Spanish from the University of St. Thomas.
Kaiser is the manager of community development at Alliant Energy, overseeing business retention and expansion efforts in Iowa and Wisconsin. She previously served as the economic development director for Benton County and holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Iowa and a Master of Science in leadership and coaching from Bellevue University.
Marion, Iowa, has experienced significant growth, with its population increasing by over 7% in the past six years, making it one of the fastest-growing communities in the state. The city boasts a median household income of $81,519 as of 2022, reflecting its economic vitality.
MEDCO’s leadership transition aims to continue fostering economic innovation and creating opportunities for Marion’s businesses and residents.
