Avant expands Texas semiconductor operations with $20M investment

Avant Technology will invest approximately $20 million to expand semiconductor assembly operations at its facility in Pharr, Texas, a move expected to create 250 new jobs and strengthen the state’s advanced manufacturing capacity.

The expansion, announced by Greg Abbott, will be supported by a $4.8 million grant from the Texas Semiconductor Innovation Fund (TSIF), a program established under the Texas CHIPS Act to accelerate growth in the semiconductor sector.

“This expansion by Avant Technology in Pharr will generate hundreds of new high-skilled jobs in the Rio Grande Valley and create new opportunities for hands-on training for the workforce of tomorrow,” Gov. Abbott said in the announcement Thursday. “Working together with industry leaders, Texas will continue to lead the nation in semiconductor manufacturing and innovation.”

Headquartered in Pflugerville, Avant designs and manufactures semiconductor assemblies, including solid-state drives and memory modules. The Pharr facility will be upgraded to produce more complex assemblies targeting enterprise, automotive and industrial applications, reflecting rising demand for advanced semiconductor components across multiple industries.

The project also includes a workforce development component through a partnership with South Texas College. The collaboration will provide students with hands-on training in semiconductor assembly, quality control and advanced manufacturing processes, supporting the region’s talent pipeline.

State officials noted that the investment aligns with broader efforts to position Texas as a leading hub for semiconductor production. Texas Senator Juan “Chuy” Hinojosa described the project as the first in South Texas to receive TSIF funding, highlighting its significance for regional economic development.

Established in 1984 as All Components, Avant Technology rebranded in 2003 and has since expanded its role in semiconductor design and manufacturing. The latest investment reinforces the company’s long-term growth strategy while contributing to Texas’ broader push to scale domestic semiconductor capabilities.
