Bridgewater State University recognized among America’s best colleges by Wall Street Journal

Bridgewater State University (BSU) has once again earned recognition as one of America’s Best Colleges, according to the 2025 rankings released by The Wall Street Journal. This marks the second consecutive year the institution has appeared prominently on this influential national list, highlighting BSU’s commitment to affordability, student satisfaction, and post-graduate success.

BSU ranks among the top 15% of colleges nationwide and holds the 22nd spot among more than 100 colleges and universities in Massachusetts. The rankings evaluate factors including graduation rates, salary outcomes for graduates, affordability, and student satisfaction.

“Our consistent ranking by The Wall Street Journal validates our relentless commitment to student success and our ability to deliver a quality education that’s both affordable and impactful,” said BSU President Frederick W. Clark Jr. “We provide students an education that significantly boosts their earnings potential without burdening them with excessive debt.”

A key metric in the rankings shows BSU graduates experience a substantial average salary increase—$23,961 more per year—directly attributable to their education. With the university’s average annual attendance cost of approximately $18,707, students typically recoup their educational investment in just over three years, underscoring the institution’s value proposition.

BSU also prioritizes affordability through initiatives such as the Bridgewater Commitment, which provides full tuition and fee coverage for Massachusetts undergraduate students from households earning $125,000 or less annually.

“We’re incredibly proud of the value we deliver to our students,” added Clark. “Programs like the Bridgewater Commitment open doors of opportunity for many who otherwise might not have access to higher education.”

BSU’s student body reflects the university’s role in promoting social mobility: nearly 45% of new students are transfer students, and 46% are first-generation college attendees.

Joseph Defendre, a 2024 graduate of BSU’s computer science program, said, “My education at BSU has been instrumental in preparing me for my next steps in graduate studies in artificial intelligence. I feel equipped and confident thanks to the experiences and guidance I received.”

Similarly, 2023 alumna Kate Brine highlighted her transformative experience, saying, “The fine arts program at BSU empowered me to launch my own architectural photography business. My professors’ support and the practical skills I gained truly shaped my professional path.”

The Wall Street Journal noted high student satisfaction at BSU, indicating students are highly likely to recommend the university to others, reinforcing the positive community and supportive atmosphere fostered on campus.
