Slovakia’s digital leap: STU FIIT launches nation’s first English-taught informatics bachelor’s program

In a landmark move for Slovakia’s higher education and digital economy, the Faculty of Informatics and Information Technologies (FIIT) at the Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava (STU) has announced the launch of the country’s first Bachelor’s degree in Informatics taught entirely in English. Set to commence in the 2025/2026 academic year, this program positions STU FIIT as a pioneer in offering internationally accessible IT education within Slovakia.

The three-year, full-time program will focus on critical areas such as software engineering, artificial intelligence, information security, and internet technologies. By delivering the curriculum in English, STU FIIT aims to attract a diverse cohort of students from Slovakia and abroad, fostering a multicultural learning environment that mirrors the global IT industry.

“STU is advancing in internationalization. In addition to prestigious foreign accreditations, extensive international collaborations, top-notch hi-tech facilities, and experts from both academia and industry, the study program of Informatics in English at STU FIIT is another significant contribution in this area,” said STU Rector Oliver Moravčík. “Our goal is to build Slovakia as a country that sets the pace in technological innovations and keeps abreast of the latest global trends.”

Dean of FIIT, Ivan Kotuliak, emphasized the program’s potential to connect students with the global IT community. “Our new international study program in English will provide Slovak and foreign students with a unique opportunity to establish contacts with the global IT community,” he stated. “Students will get the chance to collaborate with leading experts from Slovakia and abroad who are willing to share their deep knowledge and valuable experience.”

Graduates of the program will earn a degree accredited by the British Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), aligning STU FIIT with renowned institutions such as Oxford and Cambridge. This accreditation enhances the global recognition of the degree, opening doors to career opportunities worldwide.

Prospective students can apply until May 15, 2025, with the entrance examination scheduled for May 23, 2025. The annual tuition fee is set at €7,500.

By introducing this English-taught program, STU FIIT not only expands educational opportunities but also contributes to Slovakia’s ambition to be at the forefront of technological innovation and digital transformation in Central Europe.
