UT Dallas named North Texas’ top public university in 2026

The University of Texas at Dallas has been ranked the No. 1 public university in North Texas and the No. 3 public institution in Texas, according to U.S. News & World Report’s 2026 Best Colleges rankings. Nationally, UT Dallas placed 54th among public universities and 110th overall, marking a steady 22-spot climb over the past decade.

“UT Dallas is an extraordinary institution on the rise,” said President Prabhas V. Moghe. “The academic and research initiatives emerging from our university benefit Dallas, the North Texas region, and the world. With such remarkable momentum, I believe our greatest achievements still lie ahead.”

The rankings assessed more than 1,700 U.S. institutions using 17 factors including academic reputation, graduation and retention rates, student-faculty resources, and graduate outcomes.

Business and Engineering Programs Gain National Recognition

The Naveen Jindal School of Management climbed to 51st nationally for undergraduate business programs, holding its position as the third-ranked public business school in Texas. Its business analytics program ranked No. 19, maintaining a Top 20 national position, while the management program rose to No. 33.

“It is gratifying to see our programs recognized among the nation’s top public business schools,” said Dr. Hasan Pirkul, Jindal School dean. “We take pride in preparing tomorrow’s business leaders for a global economy.”

The Erik Jonsson School of Engineering and Computer Science rose to 77th nationally among undergraduate engineering programs, tying for third among Texas public universities.

Academic Momentum Across Disciplines

UT Dallas’ economics program jumped 68 places to No. 112 nationally, while its psychology program advanced 34 spots to No. 130—both ranking among the top four public programs in Texas.

With growing academic strength and consistent national recognition, UT Dallas continues to solidify its position as a leading research-driven public university in North Texas.
