The University of Texas at Tyler has been named a top 50 finalist in the 2026 Baylor New Venture Competition, one of Texas’ premier collegiate innovation contests showcasing student-led ventures from across the world.
UT Tyler earned its place with FireAI, an emerging startup developing artificial intelligence tools for advanced fire detection and prevention. The team secured its spot by winning first place at Texas Tech University’s regional iLaunch Competition—emerging ahead of 51 teams and taking home a $10,000 award.
Brandon Reynolds, director of UT Tyler’s ETX LaunchPad, said the recognition reflects the strength of the region’s engineering and technology talent. “This cross-institutional team of alumni and current students showcases the depth of innovation coming out of East Texas. Their project has been two years in the making, and we’re excited to see FireAI compete on a statewide stage.”
The FireAI team includes mechanical, electrical, and computer engineering students and alumni from Bullard, Chandler, Longview, and Tyler, representing UT Tyler’s growing entrepreneurial ecosystem.
