Malaysian semiconductor firm to venture into automotive and medical chips

In business since 2005, Malaysian semiconductor designer Key ASIC wants to start making chips for the automotive and medical technology industries, confident it can capitalize on its extensive expertise to meet the rapidly rising demand in those two sectors.

Key ASIC told GMI POST that its shift from consumer electronics to automotive and medical sectors was driven by changing customer needs.

“While we are not in consumer markets like smartphones or PCs, we have carved out a niche in automotive and medical segments, where there is a need for precise, reliable solutions,” said CEO Kah Yee Eg.

According to Eg, ASIC Key has designed over 100 chips, achieving first-time production success on each project, a testament to its rigorous design processes and quality control.

Key ASIC’s expertise in application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC) design enables it to create tailored solutions for complex requirements. It has developed chips that meet stringent industry standards, such as ISO 13485 for medical devices and AEC-Q100 for automotive applications. This specialization has helped Key ASIC gain a foothold in industries where precision and reliability are critical.

Eg stressed that Key ASIC’s growth strategy involves expanding its global activities by focusing on Japan, China, and the United States. To support its clients around the world, the company adopts a collaborative approach and calls on a strong network of wafer fabrication partners in Taiwan, South Korea, and the United States.

“Our mission is to stay at the forefront of technology, innovating continuously to enhance lives through our designs,” Eg said.
