Utah Valley University appoints Jon Anderson as next president

Utah Valley University (UVU) has appointed Dr. Jon Anderson as its eighth president following the completion of the Utah Board of Higher Education’s selection process.

Anderson will assume the role on August 10, succeeding the university’s current leadership at a time of continued enrolment growth and expanding workforce demand across Utah.

He most recently served as President of Pennsylvania Western University and brings extensive experience in higher education leadership, academic administration, and business education.

As president, Anderson will lead Utah’s largest public university, which combines open enrolment and technical education with bachelor’s and master’s degree programs.

UVU recorded its largest graduating class this year, with more than 13,400 students completing their studies. The university also plays a significant role in Utah’s workforce pipeline, with 74% of graduates remaining in the state ten years after graduation.

Around 41% of UVU students are the first in their families to attend university, while 79% work alongside their studies. The university said 73% of alumni complete degrees connected to high-demand occupations.

UVU Student Body President Herby Fullmer said Anderson’s appointment comes at an important time for the institution.

“This is a really important time for UVU students that will bring many opportunities to think creatively and continue strengthening the student experience,” Fullmer said.

Before leading Pennsylvania Western University, Anderson held senior academic roles at Southern Utah University, Middle Georgia State University, and the University of West Georgia.

His previous positions include Provost, Vice President for Academic Affairs, Deputy Provost, Associate Dean, MBA Director, and accreditation liaison.

A Utah native, Anderson attended Utah State University and holds a Ph.D. in Business Administration from the University of Kentucky, a Master of Education from the University of West Georgia, and undergraduate qualifications from Utah State University and Ricks College.

His appointment reflects UVU’s continued focus on access, workforce development, and applied learning as the university expands its role in supporting Utah’s economy and growing student population.
