Global cable manufacturer Prysmian will invest US$1.25 billion to expand its manufacturing operations across North Carolina, Tennessee and South Carolina, creating up to 600 new jobs as demand for fibre optic cables and digital infrastructure continues to accelerate. The expansion includes more than US$1 billion for Prysmian's fibre and glass manufacturing campus in Claremont, North Carolina, alongside US$100 million in Jackson, Tennessee, and US$80 million in Lexington, South Carolina. Headquartered in Milan, Italy, with its North American headquarters in Highland Heights, Kentucky, Prysmian is one of the world's largest cable manufacturers, operating more than 100 production facilities across six continents, including more than 50 locations in North America. The company supplies cable and connectivity solutions for power grids, renewable energy, telecommunications and data centres. The investment comes as demand for fibre infrastructure continues to surge, fuelled by AI applications, cloud computing and the rapid expansion of hyperscale data centres. North Carolina receives largest investment
The largest portion of the expansion will take place in Claremont, North Carolina, where Prysmian will invest more than US$1 billion to vertically integrate glass production and significantly increase fibre optic manufacturing capacity.
The project will create 385 new jobs, add 975,000 square feet of manufacturing space and double the site’s current fibre production capacity.
“This investment demonstrates our commitment to supporting the growth of the U.S. demand for advanced digital solutions,” said Andrea Pirondini, CEO of Prysmian North America. “We are one of just three U.S. manufacturers of fibre and optical cables, and now we are committing more than a billion dollars to new innovative solutions and transformational capacity growth.”
North Carolina Governor Josh Stein said the investment reinforces the state’s manufacturing competitiveness.
“This billion-dollar investment is more proof that North Carolina is leading the way on innovation and job creation. Companies understand the value of our highly skilled manufacturing workforce that helps to power their strategic growth,” Stein said.
Tennessee and South Carolina expand production
In Jackson, Tennessee, Prysmian will invest US$100 million to double the size of its manufacturing facility, creating 100 new jobs. The expansion marks the company’s second investment at the site since acquiring General Cable in 2018.
Meanwhile, the company will invest US$80 million in Lexington County, South Carolina, where it plans to expand manufacturing capabilities and create approximately 135 jobs by 2030.
Together, the three projects strengthen Prysmian’s domestic manufacturing capacity while supporting the growing demand for fibre optic infrastructure across North America.
