EUt+ Sofia Week 2025: Advancing unified, sustainable tech education across Europe

From March 31 to April 4, 2025, the Technical University of Sofia hosted over 120 delegates from nine partner institutions of the European University of Technology (EUt+) alliance. This gathering, known as Sofia Week 2025, focused on harmonizing curricula, enhancing student mobility, and embedding sustainability into engineering education across Europe.

The event commenced with a symbolic gesture: a robot named “Sudo,” programmed by TU Sofia students, inaugurated the proceedings, highlighting the alliance’s commitment to innovation. Prof. Georgi Venkov, Rector of TU Sofia, emphasized the importance of unity in building a sustainable and interconnected academic future for Europe.

Key discussions revolved around aligning courses in Computer Sciences, Food Technologies, Microelectronics, and Telecommunications to facilitate joint degrees and increase student mobility. Prof. Pancho Tomov noted the necessity of finding common ground between programs, with student ambassadors playing a pivotal role in expanding participation.

Student engagement was a central theme. Amanda Todorova and Blagovest Stankov, AI students at TU Sofia, highlighted the benefits of EUt+, with Todorova stating, “EUt+ gives us freedom, security, and experience.” Plans for establishing a student ombudsman office were also discussed to support grassroots participation.

Sustainability initiatives were prominently featured through the Green Office Sofia, coordinating Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) efforts across the alliance. Maria Krusteva proposed renaming it the Sustainability Office to reflect a broader commitment beyond environmental concerns.

Sofia Week 2025 reaffirmed EUt+‘s dedication to creating a harmonized and sustainable European academic ecosystem, aiming to educate engineers and scientists who will shape Europe’s future.
