Saronic Technologies to invest $3.2B in Brownsville, TX
Saronic Technologies will invest $3.2 billion to establish operations at the Port of Brownsville, creating up to 10,000 jobs and delivering one of the largest economic development projects in Brownsville’s history.
The investment is expected to strengthen the city’s position as a hub for advanced manufacturing, defence technology, and maritime innovation while generating significant long-term economic activity across Cameron County.
According to the Greater Brownsville Economic Development Corporation (GBEDC), the project is projected to generate an estimated $168.4 billion in economic impact over its lifetime. This includes approximately $1.6 billion in economic activity during construction and an estimated $5.6 billion annually over 30 years of operations.
Brownsville Mayor John Cowen Jr. said the project represents a major milestone in the city’s efforts to diversify its economy and expand opportunities for local residents.
“The arrival of Saronic Technologies marks another major step forward in the continued growth and diversification of our local economy,” Cowen said. “This investment is especially important as we strengthen our position in advanced manufacturing and develop a more competitive, resilient economy.”
Local education institutions and workforce partners are already working to prepare residents for the new employment opportunities expected to accompany the project.
To support the expansion, the Greater Brownsville EDC has committed $10 million toward workforce development initiatives aimed at equipping local workers with the skills required for high-quality manufacturing and technology careers.
The project is also expected to deliver more than $203 million in fiscal benefits for the City of Brownsville, providing additional resources for infrastructure, public services, and community investment.
GBEDC worked alongside the Port of Brownsville, Cameron County, and Point Isabel Independent School District throughout the recruitment process to secure the investment.
GBEDC Board Chairman Ben Peña said supporting the company’s long-term success will remain a priority as the project moves forward.
“Our commitment is to help companies succeed by connecting them with the resources, partnerships, and workforce they need to grow,” Peña said.
The announcement also supports Brownsville’s broader strategy of developing a regional advanced manufacturing ecosystem. The Greater Brownsville EDC is currently developing the 700-acre Greater Brownsville Tech Park, which is designed to accommodate suppliers and manufacturers serving companies such as Saronic Technologies and SpaceX.
The industrial park is expected to strengthen regional supply chains while attracting additional investment across the aerospace, maritime, defence, and advanced manufacturing sectors.
The Saronic project further reinforces South Texas’ emergence as a growing destination for high-value manufacturing and technology investment, creating long-term opportunities for businesses, workers, and the regional economy.
