UGA powers Georgia’s economy with record $8.4B impact

In a press release, The University of Georgia (UGA) shared that it has significantly bolstered the state’s economy in fiscal year 2024, contributing a record $8.4 billion, a $300 million increase from the previous year.

Key drivers of this growth include:

• Educational Impact: UGA awarded over 11,700 degrees, enhancing Georgia’s workforce with skilled graduates.

• Research Advancements: The university’s research efforts led to the introduction of more than 60 new products to the market.

• Community Engagement: UGA’s public service and outreach programs provided support to businesses and communities across Georgia.

UGA President Jere W. Morehead emphasized the institution’s statewide influence, stating, “Throughout every corner of Georgia, the impact of our university’s teaching, research and service is helping individuals and communities thrive.”

Economist Michael Adjemian from UGA’s College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences led the study, analyzing factors such as alumni earnings, research funding, and public service initiatives.

Notably, two-thirds of UGA graduates remain in Georgia, contributing to local economies. UGA’s outreach programs have also assisted businesses in improving efficiency and fostering growth.

As a land-grant and sea-grant institution, UGA continues to advance Georgia’s economy through education, research, and public service.
