Hyundai Motor Group has officially inaugurated its Metaplant America facility in Bryan County, Georgia, marking the largest economic development project in the state’s history. The $12.6 billion investment encompasses the Metaplant and joint battery manufacturing ventures with LG Energy Solution and SK On. The facility is set to produce electric and hybrid vehicles for Hyundai, Genesis, and Kia, with an initial projected capacity of 300,000 vehicles annually, aiming to scale up to 500,000.
Hyundai Motor Company President and CEO José Muñoz described the Metaplant as a “campus of the future,” highlighting the company’s commitment to innovation, sustainability, and smart manufacturing. Executive Chair Euisun Chung emphasized that Hyundai’s investment extends beyond infrastructure, focusing on building relationships with partners, neighbors, and the local community.
The Metaplant is expected to create 8,500 direct jobs and more than 40,000 indirect jobs across Georgia. According to the Center for Automotive Research, Hyundai’s presence will generate $4.6 billion in individual earnings annually. Suppliers across 12 counties have already announced $2.5 billion in investment and 6,900 jobs, surpassing initial projections.
Governor Brian Kemp lauded the Metaplant as a transformative project, stating, “Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America is a once-in-a-generation opportunity, made possible by our commitment to working with job creators to build fruitful partnerships for decades.” He also highlighted collaborations between Hyundai and Georgia’s educational institutions to prepare the workforce for high-quality jobs.

Hyundai’s investment strategy includes an additional $21 billion in U.S. investments between 2025 and 2028. These funds will be used to expand production, build an integrated steel mill, and fund innovation in autonomous vehicles, robotics, and advanced air mobility.
The Metaplant’s opening signifies a significant step in Hyundai’s commitment to advancing electric mobility and fostering economic growth in the United States.
