Nippon Koei, a subsidiary of Japan-based Integrated Design & Engineering Holdings Co., Ltd. (ID&E), has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Ukraine’s leading water utility network, the Ukrvodokanalekologiya Association. The agreement marks a strategic partnership to enhance the quality, resilience, and sustainability of Ukraine’s water infrastructure amidst ongoing recovery and modernization efforts.
The MOU outlines a collaborative framework centered on technical knowledge sharing, advanced engineering solutions, and joint initiatives in water resource management, wastewater treatment, and infrastructure upgrades. The partnership aims to help ensure safe and reliable access to clean water for millions of Ukrainians.
“This agreement reflects a shared commitment to building a sustainable future for Ukraine by addressing one of its most critical infrastructure challenges,” said representatives from both organizations in a joint statement. “By combining local capacity with global expertise, we’re setting the foundation for long-term resilience in Ukraine’s water systems.”

Nippon Koei brings decades of international experience in water infrastructure development, with ongoing projects in Ukraine dating back to 2015. The firm’s portfolio includes large-scale water supply systems, wastewater facilities, and climate-resilient infrastructure designs implemented in more than 100 countries. Through its collaboration with Ukraine, Nippon Koei will support technology transfer and introduce international best practices to accelerate sector modernization.
Ukrvodokanalekologiya, which represents more than 290 water and wastewater utilities across Ukraine, will coordinate local engagement and mobilize its nationwide network to implement the partnership’s objectives. The association plays a key role in aligning the initiative with national regulatory goals and community needs.
The signing of the MOU comes at a pivotal moment for Ukraine, as the country works to rebuild and future-proof critical infrastructure in the wake of war-related disruptions. The partnership also complements broader Japanese reconstruction efforts in Ukraine, supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA), the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT), and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
With water systems increasingly affected by both geopolitical and environmental pressures, the joint efforts of Nippon Koei and Ukrvodokanalekologiya represent a step toward long-term water security and public health in Ukraine.
